Boats, boats, boats

Boats, boats, boats

Originally uploaded by arctica.

On this trip we have seen boats of all shapes and sizes – from canoes through rowing boats, ribs, Orkney yoles, Shetland sixareens, lobster
boats, fishing boats, lifeboats, roro ferries, pelagic trawlers and
cruise liners to oil tankers. We’ll likely collect the full set with a
submarine in the Clyde! But today we passed this beautiful restored Dutch barge at the Raasay narrows. What a picture with her gaff rig, tan sails and traditional barge boards. But when it comes to maintenance – I’d stick with the modern ‘plastic’.

This is a new language -yoles, roro ferries, sixareens etc. Will require further explanation some evening over a glass of vino or something.
Have noted you posted this photo earlier than usual in the evening.
The skipper obviously works long hours but what of the crew? Is she lounging or jumping about meeting your every need? How goes the weather as it has become colder and very wet here tonight?

This is a fascinating, interesting learning curve for me. Accidently – as is the usual way of learning – I found all of your photographs via the flikr slide show. You have taken some fantastic pics. sorry photographs. Loved the birds particularly several of the puffins and of course the miniature viking and the little scarecrow, presumably on Shetland?
You could hold a competition to see what folks would come up with regarding the expression on the sheep’s face – wonder what it was thinking?
We are in the process of planning 05/06 national Masterclass programme for headteachers across the country and we try to keep them abreast of ICT developments and new technologies. Would you consider me letting them see some of this? If this is too private and personal then I totally understand.
    Cheers
    Linda
